The high-performance thin insulation for soundproofing and acoustics
A sound shield against airborne noise

Proof of performance and LNEC laboratory data
R'Acoustic 20 is a 20 mm thin acoustic insulation product, made from high-density recycled textile (90 kg/m³, surface mass 1.8 kg/m²) using the multilayer process developed by Ceilingo. Its airborne sound reduction performance was measured by LNEC (Lisbon's National Laboratory for Civil Engineering) at Rw 50 dB on a 290 mm double-leaf brick wall. To place this product within the range and compare the three available thicknesses, see the Ceilingo range of acoustic and sound insulation products.

Customer case study: music studio
Our customer, a drummer in a band, soundproofed his entire recording studio with R'Acoustic 20. The result speaks for itself: even with a drum kit played at full power, absolutely no sound escapes the building.

Quick ceiling installation
Watch an insulation professional fix R'Acoustic 20 directly onto a solid concrete ceiling using a pneumatic nail gun. The installer uses a clever adaptation on his panel lifter to unroll the insulation easily from his ladder. A simple, effective installation, ideal for blocking noise between floors.

Everything you need to know about the R'Acoustic 20
Five key questions about the R'Acoustic 20 thin acoustic insulation, with technical, evidence-based answers.
What is the sound reduction index of the R'Acoustic 20?
The R'Acoustic 20 achieves a weighted sound reduction index of Rw = 50 dB (C = −1; Ctr = −5), measured by LNEC (National Laboratory for Civil Engineering, Lisbon) according to standard NP EN 20140-3 and assessment EN ISO 717-1:1996. The measurement was carried out on a 290 mm wall made up of two 0.11 m hollow bricks, a 30 mm air gap and the R'Acoustic 20 (20 mm, 1.8 kg/m²). Test report reference: 43/2008-LNEC/LEA, dated 21 July 2008.
What surfaces can the R'Acoustic 20 be installed on?
The R'Acoustic 20 is installed indoors on four types of surfaces: walls (as acoustic lining on partitions or party walls), ceilings (under a concrete slab or timber floor, fixed with a nail gun or staples), floors (as an underlay before a screed or floating floor) and roofs (as a sub-roof layer to treat airborne noise and improve the acoustic comfort of loft spaces). Its areal weight of 1.8 kg/m² and its compressive strength of over 2 t/m² allow it to keep its dimensional integrity under load.
Is the R'Acoustic 20 effective against impact noise?
The LNEC test for the R'Acoustic 20 covers airborne sound reduction (voices, television, music), for which the Rw 50 dB performance is verifiable under EN ISO 717-1. Impact noise (footsteps, knocks, objects dropped on the floor) falls under a separate standard, EN ISO 717-2, and is not covered by the Rw measurement. For projects where comfort under a floating floor is the priority, Ceilingo offers the R'BULL Pro 5s, a 5 mm underlay for floating floors.
What is the R'Acoustic 20 made of?
The R'Acoustic 20 is made of high-density recycled textile fibres (wool, cotton and synthetic fibres) woven without glue using the multilayer process developed by Ceilingo. Its high density of 90 kg/m³ activates the acoustic mass law: the denser a material, the more effectively it blocks airborne sound waves. This eco-design gives the product a reduced environmental impact compared with traditional synthetic insulation, while ensuring durability and dimensional stability over time.
Is an air gap needed to achieve Rw 50 dB?
The Rw 50 dB index is measured by LNEC on a double-partition wall including a 30 mm air gap between the two brick faces. This air gap provides mechanical decoupling between the two sides and contributes directly to the overall performance of the system. The Rw 50 dB value therefore characterises the complete system (290 mm wall), not the insulation on its own. In a configuration without an air gap, or on a single partition, the acoustic performance will differ. For precise sizing for your project, contact Ceilingo technical support.
