Frequently asked questions

The answers below are general guidelines. Each project has its own specific characteristics, so please don't hesitate to contact me for a technical study tailored to your configuration. For frequently asked questions about the effectiveness of thin insulation, see also our responses to criticism.

What is the recommended installation method for R'BULL Pro 13 under the roof ?

Le R'BULL Pro 13 is laid under rafters with a ventilated air space of at least 20 mm on the roof side and at least 20 mm on the inside, in accordance with ETA 22/0178. The strips are laid horizontally with a 100 mm overlap, and the seams are stapled and taped with R'BULL aluminium tape. For complex configurations (slopes, headers, roof outlets), a personalised technical study is recommended.

Is the R'BULL Pro certified for French overseas departments and territories (RTAA DOM, RTG Guyane) ?

Yes, the R'BULL Pro range has a European ETA (ETA 22/0178, BOLTHERM family) recognised in all French overseas departments. Its thermal performance has been validated by KTU, AITEX and LNE reports, making it eligible for the RTAA DOM (Guadeloupe, Martinique, La Réunion, Mayotte) and RTG (French Guiana) schemes. For In Mayotte specifically, configuration 3 of the DOM RTAA is compliant with R'BULL Pro 13 installed in accordance with ETA recommendations. Detailed technical data sheets and compliance tables for each territory are available on request.

What is the difference in performance between R'BULL Pro 10 and Pro 13 ?

R'BULL Pro 10 (10 mm) and R'BULL Pro 13 (13 mm) are distinguished mainly by their thickness and intrinsic thermal resistance. The Pro 13 offers superior performance, particularly suited to demanding climatic zones and French overseas departments and territories. The Pro 10 remains an excellent compromise for renovations in mainland France. A detailed comparison is available on request.

Are my customers eligible for assistance (MaPrimeRénov', CEE, eco-PTZ) ?

Eligibility depends on a number of factors: the product used, its installed thermal resistance, the geographical area of the building site, the size of the building works, etc the installer's RGE status, and the profile of the beneficiary. The R'BULL Pro 13 is eligible for many schemes in mainland France and all the French overseas departments. A full guide by territory is available on request.

Do I need an air space on both sides of the R'BULL Pro ?

Yes, this is the essential condition for thin reflective insulation to work properly. The performance of R'BULL Pro products is based on reflection of infrared radiation, which requires an air space of at least 20 mm on each side to be effective. Without these air gaps, the product loses most of its insulating power.

Can R'BULL Pro be installed on its own or does it need to be complemented by other insulation ?

This depends on the level of performance required and the applicable regulations. For renovation, R'BULL Pro 13 can be sufficient on its own in many cases (particularly in French overseas departments and territories). In new builds subject to the RE 2020 in mainland France, it is generally used in addition to traditional insulation to achieve the required thresholds. A case-by-case technical study is recommended.

What technical documents should I provide to a design engineer or a building damage insurer ?

The complete file includes: the ETA 22/0178 (BOLTHERM Technical References), the Declaration of Performance (DoP) of the product used, the KTU (thermal), AITEX (reaction to fire) and LNE (physical characteristics) test reports. These documents are systematically provided on request for any project involving ten-year liability.

How do I calculate the equivalent thermal resistance of an R'BULL Pro + air gap complex ?

The equivalent thermal resistance combines the intrinsic resistance of the product (measured as KTU) and that of the ventilated or non-ventilated air spaces on either side, in accordance with standard NF EN ISO 6946. The calculation varies depending on the configuration (under-roof, wall, ceiling) and the direction of heat flow. I can carry out this calculation for your specific configuration as part of a personalised technical study.

How long does a R'BULL Pro last ?

R'BULL Pro is expected to last more than 50 years under installation conditions that comply with the DTU and ETA. The layers of pure aluminium protected between the polyethylene films do not undergo oxidation as long as the product is not exposed directly to the open air. The product retains its reflective performance throughout its lifetime.

Is the R'BULL Pro suitable for use in ERP (public access) buildings ?

Yes, subject to compliance with the reaction to fire requirements specific to each type of building. R'BULL Pro has a reaction to fire classification validated by the AITEX report. For ERP categories 1 to 4, specific construction measures may be required (enclosure, thermal screen). A clear distinction must be made between areas that are actually classified as ERP and other levels of the building for example, an upper floor for private use or a staff flat not open to the public is not subject to the same constraints, which means that costs and implementation can be optimised. A personalised technical study is still essential to define the precise scope of application.
